Pilates

Pilates is a total body workout that uses specific breathing patterns and is designed to stretch, strengthen and elongate the body. It is similar to yoga, but often involves repetitions instead of static poses. This 5-week class will tone and strengthen the legs, core, and upper body. It's demanding, but it's not the kind of workout that always works up a sweat. It’s all about concentration and breathing, but you’ll definitely feel it in your muscles during each exercise. All fitness levels are welcome. Please bring a mat, towel, and water bottle to each class. Instructor: Alyssa DePhillips, DePhillips Health and Fitness LLC.

Yoga with Beth

For many years, yoga has helped people of all ages and walks of life improve their sense of health and well-being. Yoga combines fluid movements with focused and attentive breathing. This aligns the mind and spirit with the physical body, creating a perfect “union”, or “yoga”. In today’s hectic world, daily stresses and constant mental distractions put tension into our bodies, sometimes to the point of making us ill. The purpose of yoga is to soothe the inner spirit by calming the mind and body. Yoga poses help slow us down, and we naturally become more focused and relaxed. As students grow in their yoga experience, the poses become more challenging, allowing the body to grow stronger and more limber. At any level, the benefits of yoga are the same-stronger muscular endurance, sharpened mental clarity, deeper flexibility, improved circulation and immunity and above all a heightened sense of well-being. Let yoga start you on a journey you can enjoy for a lifetime-body, mind and spirit! This class is for active individuals who are injury-free. Sessions last 5-8 weeks. Instructor: Beth Damm.

Zumba® Fitness

Zumba Fitness takes the "work" out of workout, by mixing low-intensity and high-intensity moves for an interval-style, calorie-burning dance fitness party. Each class will end with floor work and stretching. Bring a mat, towel and water. Wear workout clothes and sneakers with a smooth bottom. Instructor: Ildiko Timmerman.

NEW! SweatFIT Run Club – Couch to 5K!

Have you ever wanted to run a 5K but excuses get in the way? I don’t know where to start. I can’t do this by myself. I used to run but I am out of shape now. I don’t have time. Join us at SweatFIT for a 7-week 5K group training program. No running experience is necessary, just a pair of good running shoes. We will start at the beginning and work up to a 5K during the program. The program is designed to get you running for 30 minutes without stopping by the end of the 7 weeks. At the end of the program, we will all run the Susan G Komen Race for the Cure 5K in Des Moines on October 27. Your registration fee for this 5K will be covered in the registration fee for this group training program. This is a group training program where you will not only get support from your coach, but you will also have the support of the other runners in this program that are working toward the same goal. We will meet as a group 3 times per week for 45 minutes each. Saturdays at 8:15am, Tuesdays at 5:45pm, and Thursdays at 5:45pm, starting Saturday Sept 8. You will also be given “homework” to complete on Mondays or Tuesdays that will take no longer than 45 minutes. Everyone is busy; can you spare 3 hours per week to get to your first 5K? Our training sessions will be outside and will start from the SweatFIT Fitness Studio (unless otherwise indicated by your coach). Instructor: Mark Seaton. Min 3 / Max 20 participants. Additional Classes:

Basic Photography Class

Appealing to beginning photographers who ready to get serious about their hobby, the three-part Basic Photography class will take the mystery out of camera settings and basic composition and provide a solid foundation for whatever type of photography students wish to explore.

The first session explains which camera settings are critical for a good photograph, explore the relationship between aperture, shutter speed, and ISO and how they apply to different subjects. The second session covers how to use basic compositions tools – not rules! – to create an engaging photograph. The last session will discuss work by class participants to reinforce the principles presented and to help participants learn to evaluate their own photography. The first two sessions include opportunities to practice the lessons. Instructor Larry Mendenhall.

Oct. 6:   9-10:30 a.m. – Basic Camera Settings

Oct. 13: 9-10:30 a.m. – Basic Composition
